Join the MCN in celebrating a month-long advocacy campaign to reform U.S. foreign assistance! STAND UP 2009 will bring together 500+ students for a rally, concert, and party.

  • Special video messages from Dr. Jeffrey Sachs & Senator John Kerry
  • Dessert & Drinks (for 21+), slam poetry, student speakers, a cappella, DJs
  • Presented by the Millennium Campus Network, the United Nations’ Millennium Campaign & Lucky 7even Events Boston

The STAND UP event in Boston will be a culmination and celebration of the month-long advocacy campaign, and will be held on Friday, October 16th, the same weekend as thousands of events being held worldwide. The Boston event will bring together more than five hundred college students from across the city to learn about the crisis of extreme poverty, the need for concrete steps to achieve the MDGs, and the steps students can take to be a part of this effort. Students will see an art installation featuring their peers’ work in communities in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Uganda, hear from their peers on experiences organizing on campus and working overseas, and will be given clear opportunities to make an impact (joining a campus organization, calling/writing to Congress on specific national action days, contributing to the MCN’s Student Action Grants program). The STAND UP moment will be captured in photos and on video, and will be included in a final video shown to Senator John Kerry’s staff highlighting grassroots support (from the campaign and event) for comprehensive foreign assistance reform.

Note: STAND UP 2009 brought together over 700 students and raised 5,000 dollars for MCN Student Action Grants.  STAND UP rallied over 173 million worldwide, breaking a Guiness World Record.  Congratulations to all who participated!
